A metallic buzzing meddles through the noiseless room as a figure methodically performs her pose. Approaching the fifteenth second the jangling sound ends abruptly followed by a loud thud and a clack. The figure remains motionless in the fresh quiet before she returns to the back of the camera to wind the timer up for the next frame of film.
When I take the concurrent role of photographer and subject, an unusual duality of character occurs. Fissures in my carefully constructed facade are revealed that would otherwise be inaccessible. My figure becomes a visual semblance of past and present, holding memory just below the surface.
